Construction
We develop and build sustainable infrastructure on Robinson Crusoe Island. From cabins to tourism facilities, respecting the unique ecosystem of Juan Fernández.
Building on Robinson Crusoe Island is a responsibility that goes far beyond drawings and materials. It is an act with consequences for a unique ecosystem, for a community of 900 people, and for a natural heritage site of global significance. With more than 20 years of presence on the island, we have learned to do it well.
The logistical challenge
Any building material that does not exist on the island must arrive via cargo flights or supply vessels that call infrequently. This demands meticulous planning, optimisation of local materials and the ability to improvise with what is at hand. This is not a constraint: it is a method that produces more honest architecture.
Local materials and techniques
We work with Juan Fernández cypress, local volcanic stone and construction techniques that have been practised on the island for generations. We collaborate with craftsmen and builders from San Juan Bautista, transferring knowledge and generating quality employment in the community. The result is architecture that belongs to its place.
Sustainable construction in a reserve zone
All projects we develop comply with the island's Regulatory Plan, the requirements of the Juan Fernández Biosphere Reserve and CONAF's environmental regulations. Rainwater harvesting, wastewater treatment, solar generation and waste management are standard components of every project we undertake.
Projects we have developed
Our portfolio includes tourist cabins, diving and fishing facilities, lodge expansions, rainwater harvesting systems, solar panels and small community infrastructure works. Every project has been an opportunity to learn more about how to build better in this extraordinary place.
If you have a project on the island — or if you're thinking of developing something and don't know where to begin — we can be the partner you need. We know the island, we know its regulations, and we know its people.
What we offer
Design and construction of tourist cabins
Complete projects from concept to commissioning, with architecture adapted to the island's conditions and regulations.
Nature tourism infrastructure
Diving and fishing facilities, viewpoints, trails, refuges and any works requiring experience in remote, protected environments.
Integrated sustainable systems
Solar generation, rainwater harvesting, wastewater treatment and waste management as standard components of every project.
Advisory and permit management
Deep knowledge of the Regulatory Plan, CONAF and Biosphere Reserve regulations. We process what others don't even know exists.
What makes us different
20 years building on the island
We are not outsiders who came to build. We have been part of the island for two decades, with specific knowledge of its materials, climate and community.
Network of local craftspeople and suppliers
We work with builders and artisans from San Juan Bautista. We generate local employment and produce architecture the community recognises as its own.
Mastery of remote logistics
Everything that doesn't exist on the island must be brought in. We plan, optimise and execute with the precision that building 674 km from the continent demands.
Experience in maximum-restriction zones
National Park, Biosphere Reserve, protected coastal area. We know exactly what can be done, how, and who to speak to in order to do it right.
Ready to experience
Construction
Every experience is tailored to sea conditions, the season and your preferences. Limited spots to guarantee quality.
From those who have already been here
"I tried to build on the island with a mainland firm. It was a disaster. La Robinson solved it in half the time with materials I never could have sourced."
"The project exceeded all our expectations. They know the island better than most, and it shows in every construction decision."
"The permit management alone was worth everything. They saved us months of paperwork we never could have handled from abroad."
